    • Patey Park – The playground has been specifically designed to offer fun, creative and unstructured play for children.  Can be found around a 10 minute walk away on the top of Cairnhill.

    • Chapelton phone box – A quirky local feature in Hume Square right in front of the cafe.

    • Hume Square - A gorgeous greenspace in front of the cafe with outdoor seating in good weather.

    • Chapelton Trail – Enjoy a scenic circular walk (~4.5 km) around Chapelton through woodland paths and along Elsick Burn — perfect for families or dog walks.

    • Dunnottar Castle – Dramatic cliff-top medieval castle ruins overlooking the North Sea — one of Scotland’s most iconic historic spots.

    • Crawton Waterfall – A beautiful waterfall and coastal walk near Stonehaven.

    • The Den & The Glen – Outdoor storytelling park with play areas and themed displays, fun for kids and adults alike.

    • Deeside Way – Long walking/cycling route along the River Dee, perfect for gentle exercise and views.

  • Near Stonehaven & Surrounds

    • Dunnottar Woods – A pleasant ~3.5 km circular forest trail near Stonehaven with burns and greenery — popular for walking and trail running.

    • Coastal Walk to Dunnottar Castle – Superb seaside walk (~4–5 km) with dramatic views and historic scenery.

    • Three Stones Circular (Fetteresso Forest) – ~6 km trail loop with roots in forestry paths, suited to hikers and runners.

    • Crawton Bay & RSPB Fowlsheugh circular – ~4 km coastal loop offering seabird watching and impressive views.

    • Newtonhill Walking Routes – Several marked circuits that can be combined for longer strolls just outside Chapelton/Newtonhill.
